This is a non-profit organization dedicated to training dogs to assist
people with disabilities to lead more independent and secure lives. Hearing
Dogs alert Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons to sounds in the
environment.

Dogs for the Deaf dogs are chosen from adoption shelters, and then are
trained with positive reinforcement and lots of love to alert to possible
environmental sounds: fire/smoke alarm, telephone, door knock, doorbell,
oven timer, alarm clock, name call, and baby cry. In addition to sound
training, Hearing Dogs are also obedience trained and socialized. These
dogs are placed throughout the U.S. free of charge to the recipient.

NEADS (Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans), of Princeton, MA, is a
nonprofit organization established to train and provide rescued dogs and
donated puppies to assist people who are deaf or physically disabled in
leading more independent lives at work, at home, and at school. These
assistance dogs become an extension of their owners and bring security,
freedom, independence, and relief from social isolation to their human
partners.
